Plan your visit to Sister Bay
Where Sister Bay sits, how to combine it with Newport, Ellison Bluff and the Washington Island ferry.
The practical bits
- Position
- Northern west shore on Highway 42
- Best for
- Dining, the beach and a base for the northern tip
- Nearby
- Ellison Bluff, Newport State Park, Gills Rock and Northport
- Book early
- Summer weekends and the October Fall Fest
Two nights, one island day
Sister Bay works well as a two-night base: one day in the village and one in the northern parks, with the ferry to Washington Island as an optional third day. The drive to Northport continues north past Ellison Bay and Gills Rock.
If you are coming for Fall Fest, book lodging first and plan everything else around the village's road closures and crowds.
A northern day
-
1
Morning
Swim or walk the village beach before the day fills up.
-
2
Late morning
Drive to Ellison Bluff for the overlook.
-
3
Afternoon
Hike or beachcomb in Newport State Park.
-
4
Evening
Return to the village for dinner; stay for the dark sky if the moon allows.
