Outdoors around Sister Bay

The village beach, Ellison Bluff, Newport State Park and paddling on Green Bay.

Beach in town, bluffs outside

Sister Bay offers the rare combination of a walkable beach and quick access to the most dramatic county park on the peninsula. Newport's dark-sky designation makes it worth keeping an evening free.

Where to go

Swimming and paddling

Village beach

The beach is the easiest outdoor option: sand, shallow entry and boat traffic to watch. Paddleboards and kayaks are common in calm weather.

Bluff overlook

Ellison Bluff

A short walk from the parking area to a fenced overlook and catwalk above the bay. The view is one of the best in the county.

Dark sky park

Newport State Park

Thirty miles of hiking trail and eleven miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Backpack camping is available; the park is deliberately undeveloped.

Good to know Bring a red-light torch for night walking.
