Ephraim

White clapboard, a sheltered harbour and a Moravian past.

A Moravian village of white clapboard houses along Eagle Harbor. Ephraim is the peninsula at its quietest — a place to walk, paddle and look across the water at Peninsula's bluffs.

The village that kept its face

Ephraim's identity is architectural as much as geographic. The village grew from a Moravian settlement, and its white facades and unfettered waterfront views have survived in a way that few American harbour villages manage.

The result is a place that rewards slow walking. The historic buildings are private homes and public museums rather than a reconstructed main street, and the waterfront is a sequence of small parks, docks and lanes rather than a single promenade.

What to do first

Harbour

Walk to Anderson Dock

The graffitied dock warehouse is the village's signature sight and the best place to watch the harbour.

Museums

Visit the historical foundation

The Ephraim Historical Foundation runs museum sites and guided walking tours that explain the Moravian settlement.

Eagle Harbor

Get on the water

The sheltered bay is well suited to kayaks and paddleboards when the wind is down.
