See and do in Baileys Harbor

Cana Island Lighthouse, the Baileys Harbor Range Lights, the Ridges and the village's Lake Michigan shoreline.

A lighthouse cluster

Few places in Door County concentrate so much maritime history in one short stretch. Cana Island, the range lights and the Old Baileys Harbor light are all within a few miles of the village, and the Ridges adds the landscape that made the harbour navigable in the first place.

The essentials

Built 1869 · nine acres

Cana Island Lighthouse

The island became a county park in 2007 and is managed by the Door County Maritime Museum, which opens the lighthouse for tours from May through October. A short walk across a gravel causeway reaches it year-round.

Good to know The causeway can be wet. Wear shoes that can handle water and rock.

Built 1869

Baileys Harbor Range Lights

The upper and lower lights guided boats into safe water for a century. When the two aligned, a skipper knew the channel was clear. The grounds are open; the structures are not.

Built 1852

Old Baileys Harbor Lighthouse

Known for its bird-cage lantern room, this light was removed from service in 1869 when the range lights were built. It is now privately owned and not open to the public.

Adjoining the village

The Ridges Sanctuary

A protected shoreline sanctuary next to the 30-acre Baileys Harbor Ridges county park, which has 400 feet of sand beach and swimming access.
